Of Bethesda, MD died of a heart attack on Thursday, July 2, 2009. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Dot Hartley, his four sons, Ralph, Henry, George, and Albert, their wives, Tsai-Hong, Cathy, Carmela, and Brady, and three grandchildren, Stephen, Iris, and Dorothy. Born in Memphis, TN, in 1927, Bob graduated with a bachelor's degree in physics from Yale and earned a Ph.D. from MIT in biophysics. Bob enjoyed his career as a protein chemist at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda for 45 years. He loved traveling and camping with his family. Ever learning, he had a wide range of interests including bird-watching, growing fruits and berries, and ancient history. Friends and family will visit at the home of Henry and Cathy Hartley on Friday, July 10 any time from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM.
