March 2010, and Signs of Spring

Pileated woodpecker, digging a nest hole?

A yellow-rumped warbler.

Masses of wood frog eggs.

And masses of spotted salamander eggs! All in a secret location...

...unless this looks familiar to you.

A rough cross-section of a sycamore's rings.

A mourning cloak butterfly enjoys the sap of a sugar maple (along with an ant).

The one brief glimpse it gave of the top of its wings.
