Maple Sugar Festival at Brookside

Before things got started we saw this Pine Siskin at the thistle feeder.

Boiling down the sap.

Sugar maple with sap bucket.

The naturalists before things got busy.

The sap was really flowing.

Swing back and...

CHOP! (Notice the two halves of the log flying apart.)

It's a good thing there's sand on that slick ramp.

Making pancakes.

Guests heading up to the sugar maples.

On the right guests are learning about boiling the sap, on the left they are tasting some sap.

Late in the day naturalists and volunteers warmed themselves by the fire.

Draining the boiler.

It was a blustery cold day, so the fire was very appealing.

Carrying water to put out the fires.
